Funds raised through this year’s event will help achieve the goal of completing the X-Ray Casualty Center. Once the Center opens its doors, essential trauma services for children and families in rural communities near Ilula, Tanzania can be provided.

Student rate is $20 ($5 is tax-deductible)

The Evening

6:00 p.m. Wine and Hors D’oeuvres Reception
- Standard Deviation Jazz Quartet
- Silent auction (please bring your checkbook)

7:30 p.m. Program
- Presentation by recent travelers to Tanzania
- Live auction
- Dessert reception follows the program

The 6 p.m. reception features live music by the Standard Deviation Jazz Quartet, and opportunities to bid on a handful of carefully selected and irresistible silent auction items. We hope you will be inspired to bid on a silent auction item and/or contribute to a current and special need in Tanzania – please bring your checkbook!

During the 7:30 p.m. program, stories will be shared by recent travelers to Tanzania. You will also have the opportunity to bid on wonderful live auction items and make a special gift in support of the X-ray Casualty Center.

A dessert and coffee reception concludes the evening.

Special Call for Auction Donations

The Ilula Health Center Task Force is seeking live and silent auction donations for our annual benefit on Thursday, May 6. Desired donations include vacation packages, weekend getaways, gourmet dinners, hot tickets to theatre or sporting events, other experiences, and artwork and crafts from Tanzania.

Shoulder to Shoulder achieves nonprofit status.  What began as a small task force in 2002 has grown into an organization registered as a 501(c)3 tax exempt, nonprofit organization. "Shoulder to Shoulder" is our new name, and your donations to support life and health in rural Tanzania are now fully tax deductible.

Summer: Peter Harrits interns as hospital chaplain at Ilula. Read Peter's insights and experiences on his blog, New Specs.

Eye Project: Dr. David Johnson led a team for Vision Outreach International working at Ilula July 7-18. The group screened over 700 for vision problems, distributed hundreds of pairs of glasses, and performed over 60 cataract surgeries. Read more here.
